This was one of the finalists (and one of my personal favourites) of CGDC5 hosted by Jayisgames. A bit easy perhaps, but very likeable. Control your little Rover and mine for resources to upgrade it with weapons and abilities. Fly to a number of neighbouring moons and place explosive devices to rid the system of the alien pests wich have taken control.

As you might have noticed (and made us aware of) we've been somewhat lazy recently. Nitrome hasn't. This one has been out for a while, but as we've posted their previous releases I feel obliged to include it.

You like Nitromes games? Cheese Dreams offers nothing new, really. Apart from bouncing along instead of running and jumping, it's the same game as we've seen and played a few times before. Get through each level, collect stars, dodge traps and hostiles (in this case, malevolent space mice). But, as always - well performed, pretty in it's pixlish style and fun for a few minutes.

Waddayaknow...the time for wonders are not over. Nitrome has come up with a slightly different gaming concept this time! Not revolutionary in any sense, we've seen puzzlers like this before, but I for one was growing pretty tired of the Nitrome platform style (Toxic, Headcase, Jack frost, Aquanaut and Dirk Valentine). This is a good little game though, and as always, the graphics are pixlishly cool.

How hard can it be? Collect 50 or so yellow gems in the maze, toggle doorways by moving onto blue markers, avoid red ones, grey ones will dissappear/move if you have collected the right symbol beforehand. Simple enough, you might think. But this is a Tonypa release, and as you know if you've made contact with his little brainchilds before, it's not all that simple... And of course, there aren't any manual or how-to to fall back on. You have to find out stuff as you go along.

The Fifth Casual Gameplay Design Competition at Jayisgames is over. The winner is this little gem - a wonderful retroish shooter complete with waves of different attackers and bosslevels. You have the ability to absorb your opponents attacks to make them your own and by doing so using their own weapon against them. Smooth, great graphics, addictive and classic shooting action with an element of strategy as well.

Dirk Valentine And The Fortress Of Steam

Nitrome goes steampunk! Again, it's pretty much the same game over and over from Nitrome - but this time the settings are really appealing. And with a super cool hero name like Dirk Valentine... (almost in the vicinity of Sonny Limbo, eh?) Well, it's a hit.

Run and jump your way through level after level, use your "chaingun" to reach hard to get to places, don't fall and collect stuff. If you've played any Nitrome releases previously, you should know the drill by now.

Alien vs. Predator Requiem game

Aaah, it feels nice to add a game like this after all those minigames where you accually have to use your brain. This is a nice remix of the classic Rampage, but instead of gigant monkeys and dinosaurs you have cute xenomorphs like Alien and the Predators. Unfortunately, this "humoristic" approach destroys the aura that surrounds the movie creatures a little bit which is sad. Of course not as much as Paul W.S. Anderson did when he directed AvP

As you might know, we have a thing for zombiegames here. We've even given them their own label. OK. Fine. They might not always be all that "new" or fresh. Most of the time they're actually just another hectic shooter with massive splatter effects that brings nothing new to the genre or gaming. But hey. It's zombies allright! Been a while since we posted some, so here you go. Boxhead Zombie Wars is the fifth installment, this time a bit of strategy is added as you can place explosive barrels at your own leisure. Trapped in a two colored space (research facility?) you have to find your way through each increasingly treacherous level by jumping and more important shifting your color as well as gravity. If you're black, you can only move in the white zones and vice versa.

Talented swedish web agency North Kingdom has made this advergame for Coke Zero. Yup, same guys that made the also extremely great looking Get The Glass. A bit on the sexist side, perhaps, and the minigames are not unique or cutting edge, but damn, they look good... Do the death jump, break a wall with a football, juggle a flaming football to impress cheerleaders and play a mega pinball machine. Do what has to be done to get to the football game in time, and step on it, will you.

When we started out two years ago, we were at least four merry collegues surfing the web for the next good casual web game worth our attention. Now, we're down to two, and as we both are hard working (when we're not at home on paternity leave as is the case with me at the moment) the posting is sometimes a bit sporadic. But don't dispair! Sometimes you might want something more gamewise than just your 5 minute quick fix. Caravaneer is nothing but a fully fledged strategy and rpg game that will keep you busy and occupied for a severe amount of time. A really intricate trading game, tons of options (and yes, you can save your progress. And yes, you will need it - took me two tries to even get my first serious revenue) You start out small, but will eventually get the knack of being a caravaneer. Trade stuff, be sure to have your supplies in order, hire gunmen, get better transportation, fight off the robbers in turnbased combat and (hopefully) get filthy rich in the process. This reminds me of when I got hooked on Fallout back in the day and spent waaaay to many nights in front of my old Pentium II...

Another Nigoro gem! (See previous Death Village). "Invincible Randy" is on a dangerous mission to Point K9 to gather the rare mineral Red Krypton. His little spaceship handles like crap though, so he'll be having a hard time completing his mission. Not to mention the annoyances of lasers, mines, spacepirates and running out of gas. Nice touch with the alternate gravity directions - 'cause as you know, in space, there is no thing like "up" or down". This adds to the sometimes severe trickieness guiding Randy through the interiors of the planets.

This time you should break out your poolskills and get the colored rings to touch the colored sides by using the white ring. Bounce off the white sides - if you accidently touch the colored ones with your "cueball" you'll lose a shot. Easy enough, right? Well you'll find out how "easy" it is when those remaining shots just gets fewer and fewer...

One of the best games this year! So good it's actually up for "Best browser game" in the Independent Games Festival. Instantly likeable mix of action/rpg where you commandeer a ship with up to three crewmen. You will encounter storms, fight evil foes an dive for treasure. You're in it for the money, wich will let you equip your crewmen with better gear/up their stats to help you on your quest for booty on the seven seas. Good fun, and great artwork.
... too bad this is only the first map. To play the whole game you unfortunately have to buy it... Bummer... Didn't realize that when I started posting it, but it's never the less a great little game.

I played StormWinds 1.0 a while back, and didn't post it for some reason. Now the new hotter version has come out, and I have to say that although I don't really know or remember what eventually has been improved since I played it last time, I do know I like it better now. This is absolutley one of the best web games this year. It got me hooked for 2 hours straight. (according to my wife we apparently we had nothing to eat so I had leave the game to get some groceries. What a pity.)

It´s a defend the castle game or should I say defend the road game world war II style. You might feel that the game controls is a little bit difficult for being a web game, but it sure pays off to learn the rules. The graphics reminds me of the good old classic Close combat series before it went fps.

Untraceable is an upcoming serial killer thriller that looks like something like a bad breed of Saw and Die Hard 4.0. I´m not sure if I´m hocked on this one, but it´s hard to tell.

A nice spare-time game that might remind you of Asteroids but this one is a little bit clever.

If you single click your mouse button you will fire bullets that only make the target bounce off their course. If you double click, you will drop a bomb that destroy the targets. The thing is to try to move the targets into, well target groups and blast them to get some sweeeet combos.

Whoa! Am I the only blogger around these parts..? Better post a game that are no less than two games in one then. Just to double the output. Choose wich game you want to play - a nice little shooter with a wonderful maggoty feel to the movement, or a tricky jump n' run where you play the cannon (hence the name of the game) - both are great little timewasters and feel really fresh.

And of course! Since it's only been like three weeks or so since we last saw a pixlish platformer in bright colours and nintendoish theme music from them, Nitrome as a brand new one for you. Great stuff. And good looking, as always. (And OK, maybe they didn't steal the idea for Yin Yang wich I accused them of, but hmmm. I still think it smells a bit fishy).

Personally, I hate MS Excel. Yeah, I know, it is really a brutally powerful tool if you know how to use it. And yeah, I do use it quite frequently, but being a Macophile I just can't stand the horrible interface... On the other hand I do like a good game, and when you take an old idea and gives it a new "suit" to suit your advergaming purposes, I 'm all in. Even if the "suit" happens to be the oh so horrible MS Excel.

Being home on paternity leave sure rocks - I can spend all night surfing for games as I'm already up changing diapers and resetting pacifiers... Anyhow. Here's an isometric blocksliding puzzler with no less than 150 levels and an editor for you who just can't get enough of the stuff. (I especially like the little spin the knight does when you solve each puzzle, looks exactly like the thing Tomas Brolin did when he scored.)

Heads up! ...or down...or whatever direction it is... Spinning maze where you need to get Wiz and Waz (blue ball, red ball) to their matching exits. Some cooperation between them is necessary to open doors for eachother. Pretty easy at start, unnecessary long intro (wich I couldn't skip for some reason) and annoying tutorial chatting, but quite entertaining. Reminds me a bit of Roly Poly and Yin Yang.

Mr Mothball 2 - Cotton Carnage

I'm a fan of mr Skutnik's point n' klick adventures, but this is something completely different. It's still point and click, for sure, but this time, it's for firing stuff. A pretty nice little shooter, complete with an evil endboss. And no, this is not one of the best shooters ever made, probably not even top 100, but I do dig the graphics. (Don't dig the bug that made me spend 10 uneccessary minutes trying to kill the boss before I gave up and restarted though)...

Another game of avoidance and getting that darn dot to the finish. Actually, the same game as Click Maze, but your cursor isn't affected by the walls and obstacles this time. Makes for a nicer gameplay.

Great little game! From Russia comes this little gem - get to the top of the building, collect stuff like I-pods, golfbags and cars to earn points and bounce off exploding pigeons to gain height. Watch out for electric charges. You only got 30 seconds to start with, to increase your time you have to get to the next level/checkpoint, so don't stop to admire the view. Nice one! And quite hard. Haven't made it half way up yet, and I've given it faaaaar to many tries already.

Totally straightforward - place your metalball and release it so it hits the bobted, sometimes you have to be creative and make use of two or more balls to achieve each goal. ...what a "bobted" is? Well , your guess is as good as mine, often enough they look just like orbshaped watertowers. But one way or another they need to be destroyed. Try also: It's a fact!, Super Serif Brothers, Hapland 1 & 2, Hapland III, Escape from Rhetundo Island.

Portal: The Flash Version

Valve just released their long awaited "Orange Box" the other day and part of that box besides from containing Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, and Team Fortress 2 which are all already released games it also contains Portal.

This is as the title says, the flash version of that game, not nearly as good but still a decent timekiller. Use the mouse to set your entry point (portal) and you exit point to get by obstacles, control the player with the arrowkeys and reset your portals with "R". A nice little puzzler.

I recomend that you pick upp the real game to as well, a real bargain for 5 games. Available to Xbox 360 and PC and the PS3 version is on the way.

TG Motocross 3 Australia Game

Way back in 2006 I wrote an essay in which the main question was how many motocross games the net can handle. I have not yet found an answer, and meanwhile the game studio Teagames has launched another one. The only new twist to this genre is that it takes place in Australia.

Bloody mayhem! For some inexplicable reason, the only way to save rome is to slay all of it's inhabitants. But dang, it's fun. Run around the seven hills of Rome like some roman predecessor to Charles Manson on speed and let loose your killing skills. Pick up weapons - there are a lot of them - one for each lettered key. This is one of the winners of the 2007 Independent games festival. It got the first price in the "Best Web Browser Game"- category, leaving such incredibly good games as Gamma Bros and Samorost 2 as mere runners up. And yeah, it's good. Instantly likeable, playable and charmingly Nintendoish with multiple gamemodes. Bubble on!
